If you have interest in Angel or any of our sweeties, please fill out the adoption application.
Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved through the rescue, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
Angel - in Maine
Sweet Angel is a local surrender. She is 10 months old and 48 lbs. She originally came from a backyard breeder and was recently turned into a northern Maine shelter because she was nipping at heels and being a typical herding dog (can you imagine?) She appears to be a border collie/australian shepherd mix. She had a SAFER test and she passed with flying colors. The only thing she was hesitant on was when many people came in the room all at once. She tucked her tail, hid for a few moments and was wary but Angel did relax and the tail came up. She had no problems with people touching her, no issues over food or toys, and met other dogs nicely.
When she was at the shelter, a staff member took her home to give her a break from the shelter. She played well with the other dogs in the home but could be a little pushy about stealing toys. With attention, exercise, consistency and training for basic manners Angel will be an awesome family member.
Angel has not been exposed to cats but also didn’t show overly active prey drive when she was at the farm of the shelter volunteer; she hasn’t been exposed to children yet since being turned over to the shelter.
Angel is in foster care with us and though she was originally showing some possessive behavior over toys and food, (not at all with people but with other dogs), she is doing better every day learning to share and be a member of the pack. Continued training with Angel will be important.
