If you have interest in meeting Baxter or any of our sweeties, please fill out the adoption application.

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where our dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.

Baxter - in Maine!

Meet Baxter!

This handsome little fella is an 8 year old Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix, weighing in at 12 lbs. He was a recent local surrender to the rescue. Baxter has a sad story but we know it will have a very happy ending.

Lucky Pup was approached earlier this year due to Baxter's mama being terminally ill and needing help; her sweet boy needed significant medical care desperately and would also need a new home soon. Baxter’s mom loved him dearly and did not want to see him go to a shelter, she also knew he had some necessary medical needs that she was not able to provide for him. After one of our volunteers met with Baxter we knew we had to find a way to help.

He needed to be  neutered and from the rotten smell from his mouth it was obvious that he desperately needed a dental procedure. However, the full extent of Baxter’s needs would not be known until we had him checked out  by a vet. Baxter ended up having 26 teeth extracted at the time of his neuter and dental cleaning.!In addition to his surgical needs he also tested positive for Lyme disease. If that wasn’t enough, Baxter was having a very hard time in walking or even standing up! While  we will never know for sure the cause of this, it is thought he may have fallen off the bed when keeping his mom company. Because she was bedridden, Baxter did not get out for exercise at all and possibly this led to muscle atrophy.  With a collaborative effort of fundraising from our own very generous followers, funds from another rescue group helping support Baxter, and a vet clinic willing to work with us we were able to get Baxter on the right track and he is doing so well in his wonderful foster home where he receives reiki and Ttouch in addition to love, safety and exercise at the level he is able.

Baxter is currently living with several dogs much larger than him and  has met cats, chickens, sheep, rabbits, you name it! He doesn’t mind any of them, although he would also be just as happy to be your one and only. We are looking for a new family that can continue to rehabilitate and strengthen his legs and also someone that will be able to offer him a lifestyle with minimal alone time. Baxter bonds very, very closely to his person and if you are lucky enough to meet him you will soon learn what an incredible soul this wee man is, he will be breaking hearts with anyone he encounters as he continues his rescue mission, with our assistance, to find his forever home.
