If you have interest in adopting Chi Chi or any of our cuties, please fill out the adoption application.
Please note: We do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
Chi Chi - in Maine
Most recent update: August 2016
July 2016 update:
ChiChi’s foster mom tells us,” he is a fairly mellow guy around the house. He loves their enclosed yard but he is content to stay indoors snuggling in the comfy chair and sometimes needs to be encouraged to go out so he doesn’t have an accident.
He loves to go for car rides looking out the window.
He does like to snuggle in bed if you let him. We went camping and he decided that the best place to sleep was right between us and he tried to push us off the bed!
Chi Chi loves belly, back and head rubs. He loves stuffed animal toys and will play happily with them. He is a big baby about some things like nail clipping so we are working on desensiting him. He also does better with the chewable flea/tick products than the liquid.
He can be protective of his house so if someone is there you will know. He needs to know that everything is okay when you have visitors and tell him its ok. Having your guests give him several treats so that he accepts them works well and if someone comes right for him without letting him initiate the interaction he may be defensive. If he barks we call him to us for reassurance.
He currently lives and gets along with my 90 year old mother inlaw, 4 birds, 1 cat and another dog his size. He has met other dogs and has been fine with some and has disliked others. Any meeting with another dog should be done on neutral territory.”
Chi Chi has been to a number of adoption events with us and he charms the crowd, responding very well when people let him initiate the interaction.
Chi Chi is a 5 and a half year old Pug, Pekingese, Chihuahua mix! This super cute little dude was a local surrender to the rescue when his owners decided that their long work schedule which left him home alone for a long as 16 hours a day was not fair, especially as he adores being with people.
We recently had him undergo surgery for a very large benign growth from which he recovered beautifully.
Here are some thoughts from his foster after getting to know him in their home..
Chi Chi likes snuggles, belly rubs, walks and sunning himself on the porch. He likes to be with his people all the time. Sometimes he startles at loud noises or sudden movements.
He is coming out of his shell and will take time time to adapt to new situations. He likes playing with his furry foster siblings and he gets along with the cat and birds there too.
He would do well in a placement with an older couple or single person. Little children seem to make him nervous but respectful older kiddos are fine for him. He walks well on a leash too.
We have found that ChiChi, like most dogs, does best if humans let him do the approaching. He is more comfortable if you don't reach over his head or rush towards him.
He is a quiet guy and would like a calm home with other pets or as an only if you are home a lot, but he's also up for adventure too!
He has been a great ambassador dog at events for us!
Chi Chi weighs 25 lbs and could continue to lose a bit more weight.
