Darla

Last update: April 2015

Darla is here with us and doing wonderfully. For a dog who had a rough start and little socialization as a babe with humans, she is making very good strides. What she loves the most is other dogs – she is living with male and female foster siblings right now and she plays hard with them. Once she trusts her humans she becomes very affectionate and responsive but you have to be patient with her and manage her meetings with new people because of her shyness.  Darla walks well on a leash and loves to explore and to be outside.

We would not place her with very small kids because of her shyness but older respectful kids will have fun with Darla. She absolutely needs to go into a home with at least one other dog.

Darla is such a love! Typical of some nervous dogs, Darla’s belly can be sensitive so she should stay on the food she is eating (Fromm adult food)and she needs a different heartworm preventative because she reacted to Heartguard.     Her crate is not her favorite place but she is learning to do well outside the crate too.

Our partner rescue in the south saved Darla and her siblings when they saw a post on a social media site giving them away for free. When they went to go meet them the mom was tied to a tree and the people would throw food on the ground for all the dogs.  There was no fresh water and the pups were pretty feral at that point. The rescuers took them into their care and worked hard to socialize them and get them medically updated and ready to find families. Several of them have been adopted and now it's Darla's turn. She is about a year and a half now and just beautiful! Darla is approximately 50 lbs.

To apply to adopt this dog, check out our adoption application.

Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.
Thank you for considering rescue
