Miranda - in Maine

Miranda is a 1 year old Shepherd mix who weighs 50 lbs. We think she may have been fending for herself for quite some time as she was very skinny when she was found but is gradually putting some meat on her bones. She is an energetic, loving and playful girl. She loves playing with her canine friends and then curling up on the couch with her humans. Miranda is crate-trained and content to hang out in her crate while the humans are away during the day. She will nap the day away or entertain herself with safe chew toys. She doesn’t get into mischief if left free while the humans are at home so she is earning more freedom.

 

In her southern foster home where she lived with a lot of dogs, Miranda needed to be fed separately. When dogs have had to fend for themselves and find food to survive that can certainly lead to protective behavior with food while they learn that they will consistently receive their meals.

 

 

We currently don't have information on her with cats or younger children, but with her high energy she could easily knock little ones; older kiddos who could play with her and drain her energy would likely be a great fit. She is doing great with housetraining.

 

Since coming to Maine, Miranda is living in a foster home with several dogs and is fed in her crate away from the other dogs but has not shown aggression; she is even working on being told “wait” when her bowl is placed down. Miranda walks well on a leash and follows the lead of the other dogs; she does like to explore and sniff so she’s working on those leash manners. In the yard she does well on a long lead, and this girl would LOVE a fenced yard. She gets excited about fetching tennis balls and other toys.

 

Miranda’s ideal family would be active to help her expend her energy but then be ready to cuddle on the couch for some quality time.

Please note: we do not have a physical location where our dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
