Jackson - in Maine!
Most recent update: November 2020
Jackson is a beautiful 3 year old boy and he has had a long rescue journey. He is a handsome big boy who needs a very patient and understanding family who is ready to work with the shyest of boys. Jackson would not do well in an environment with small children or a lot of people coming and going. He definitely does best in the presence of another dog and a consistent routine. He is very sweet once he gets to know you. He loves to play with toys and run around outside. He doesn't mind cats and he is friendly with every dog he has met. He is staying with our rehabilitation friends at Kompletely K9 and he helps with some of the other dogs who need a good playmate.
Way back in 2017 the J pups and their mom were found by a mailman out in a rural part of Arkansas. They were in rough shape, living in the summer heat without shelter or shade. Our partner rescuers worked very hard to catch them, nurse them to health and get them ready to journey north. Because the pups were older when rescued, they missed out on critical socialization and it has taken a long time for every one of them to feel safe with people. Because people can be wonderful, all his siblings have found forever homes but Jackson has been a more difficult placement and is working with our friends at Kompletely K9 Training and Rehabilitation. We just love this big guy and would love to see him find forever love. This is not a dog for first-time owners or for a growing busy family, but for someone with experience with scared dogs. We will work with you on training and slow transition to your home if you have interest in Jackson.
We recently tested Jackson with cats just to be sure: "He seemed fine. Smelled her, moved away, I let her out of the crate. He slowly followed her into the next room. We brought her over for him to smell again. He seemed more apprehensive than anything. As soon as we took her out of the room he ran back to his crate."
If you have interest in meeting Jackson or any of our sweeties, please fill out the adoption application.
Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
