Mabel - in Maine!

Most recent update: July 2017

Can you believe that this keeps happening to Mabel? This is the second time she's had to start her life over because her owner has had to go into assisted living. The first time we scooped her up because a local vet called us - family members wanted to euthanize her but they saw the special personality in this little lady and called us. We cared for her until she got adopted, but now her newest mom had to move where Mabel can not go and cutie Mabel is back with us - she is now approx 13 years old and she wants one more warm couch and loving owner to treat her right.

Mabel is a little dog with a big personality!

She is a senior chihuahua/ rat terrier mix. Don't let the age scare you off, Mabel goes by the philosophy that you are only as old as you think you are. In Mabel's case that would be about 5 years old.

Mabel would love a home of her own where she could be treated like the princess she thinks she is. Mabel is a little dog at 17lbs but she is not a "carry me around and  strut my stuff out in public" little dog. Her ideal day would be quietly sunbathing at home following around the sun spots as they moved throughout the day or napping in your lap. Mabel is very good on leash and is food motivated. She loves her vegetables. She is slow to warm up to people but once she does you will be smothered with kisses and exuberant welcomes when you get home. Mabel will make sure you are aware of any one in the yard or if a dog is barking on the TV.

Mabel has been able to integrate quite a few new foster dogs into her temporary family and she teaches them how to behave around a senior lady!

So if you are looking for a small dog with a big personality and can provide a quiet loving home, Mabel would love to meet you.

If you are interested in meeting Mabel or any of our cuties, please fill out the adoption application

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network, and  it is our expectation that, once approved, a potential adopter and their family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.

Mabel is in York County Maine enjoying the company of her humans and her dog and cat buddies while she waits to find that retirement home she is dreaming of.
