Mel - foster needed - in Maine

Most recent update: February 2016

Our southern partner shelter tells us, "our lovely MEL is such a unique dog - she is an interesting mix of Beagle and Foxhound and is two years old. She is bouncy and endearing ! Her lovely, long legs give her such an air of grace and elegance! She is an enthusiastic walking companion on long, daily walks and is housebroken. Mel loves to run and play! This happy Hound will be such a fun companion!"

Mel had some trouble settling in when she arrived, particularly in managing being in a crate and meeting new dogs. We entered her into a canine rehabilitation program where she is learning and becoming more comfortable. A new family will need to continue her training program. She seems to like being an "only child" the best but a tolerant adult male dog may be OK for her too. She has lived with dogs in other settings. She is too exuberant to live with cats, and would prefer an active family but one that does not have a ton of coming and going as far as visiting humans and dogs. A routine will work well for her.

Mel's paperwork says she is approx. 2.5 years old and 50 lbs but she is a long-legged tall girl!

If interested in Mel or any of our sweeties, please fill out the adoption application.

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed - they are cared for in our network of wonderful foster homes. It is our expectation that, once approved, potential adopters will meet the dogs in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.

Thank you for considering rescue!
