He can be exuberant in his greetings and he may knock over little kids with his excitement. Older respectful kids would make the most sense for him. He benefits from a good deal of exercise and good leadership.
Did we mention that Rudy is a ball-playing maniac? He will share with his human but not other dogs. We love seeing the photos and videos of him playing - we're even told he was responsible for the Patriots' "deflate gate" issue but the authorities haven't caught up to him yet ; 0 )
Rudy makes everyone smile with his antics and his love of his big orange ball. If the grass is wet first thing in the morning he will roll in it and he is so happy when it snows. He also will gather socks and come running to show his human what he has found - luckily he doesn't eat them. He wants you to chase him for the sock but if you refuse he will just roll over and invite you to take it from him.
Rudy is treat motivated and learns best when the human has a supply of goodies. He is too excitable around cats so he needs a feline-free home.
Rudy would be the most relaxed if he could find a forever home in the country where he could run in a fenced area or off-leash area (once he understands he is "home") without constantly meeting other dogs on leash. This is the hardest thing for him because he is reactive to new dogs when he is on leash. He is a sweet lovebug, a 60 lb lap dog (at least he thinks so!) who adores his humans. His new family will need to be ready to get lots of kisses.
Interested in adopting? Check out our application.
Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.
Thank you for considering rescue!
Rudy is being fostered in Cumberland County, Maine while he waits for his forever family to find him!

Rudy
Most recent update: July 2015
Rudy is so ready to find his forever family. He is a approximately 6 years old and is a lab mix, maybe mixed with some collie or shepherd in there. Rudy is a master ball player and would love to find a family with a big yard where he could play ball when he's not curled up in a warm spot. He has learned to be off leash successfully and only needs a ball to make him the happiest boy of all! When he wants to play he will bark to get you to throw the ball for him.
Rudy is not keen on sharing, especially with his ball, so we thought he would need a home as an only dog but he has successfully been able to be around other tolerant dogs that are ok with him being the toy master. What he really wants is to be with a human who just likes being with him and playing.
