Burt - in Maine!

Posted July 2026

Burt is a 1 1/2 yr old terrier mix who maybe has some cattle dog in that mix too. Whatever he is, he is 110% adorable!   He weighs 45 lbs so he is a fantastic medium size pup. He would be an amazing agility dog because he is short and stubby with large paws that act like propellers to give him big air!  He thinks he invented parkour! When he is playing with other dogs he bounces around and looks like a little cartoon character trying to run while bounding about (think Scooby Doo). He is wonderful with other dogs and aced his interview with daycare  where he was in the yard with roughly 30 others! He did phenomenal!! He just wants to be  part of the gang! He even took corrections very well from some of the grumpier dogs in attendance that day.

Not only is he a dog lover, but he's a people lover too! He loves it if you watch him run and play and definitely if you join in. He will ask for attention with a funny little whine that you wouldn’t expect out of him He’s very adventurous and confident. He’s been to a tennis game and was climbing the bleachers and giving encouraging licks to the players on the bench.  He loves to go out in public and yes, he still needs to reel in his excitement at times, but he’s done very well overall.  He’s very very smart and will do anything for a treat. Because of that, it’s been pretty easy teaching him to walk with you instead of ahead of you on a leash. A treat pouch and a clicker are magic tools for this food driven boy.

Burt is house-trained and crate-trained and has never met a stranger. His one hang-up is that he is over-interested in furry feline friends, so he needs a cat-free home. He's awesome with kids and even met a 2 yr old girl and was so sweet with her even though she is nervous around dogs.    Burt is confident and so curious about the world. He's still puppy-ish in some ways but an absolute doll. He’s just so curious about the world. He loves a good game of fetch, but can throw down for a good nap too.

If you'd like to meet Burt or any of our wonderful dogs, please fill out the adoption application.

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
