Louie - in Maine!
Posted November 2022
This little nugget is a 17 lb, 3 year old Shih Tzu who hasn't had much luck in life so far. Louie came to us from Mississippi after being found as a stray; the family that adopted him were not able to give him the care he needed which is when our southern rescue stepped in. He has had some medical needs since arriving in Maine but our vet has now given the green light for him to be adopted. Before coming to Maine he had surgery to repair a cherry eye, this should not require any further follow up. After he arrived he was dealing with a urinary tract issue so he did have some tests and treatment for that. His most recent check up showed his infection has cleared up; however, we have been advised he should stay on the prescription diet and to be re-checked regularly.
Louie is a very sweet and loving boy but typical of his breed also has a very strong personality. He is very cute and easy to love however he needs a family that will be firm and consistent so he does not need to take a leadership or protective role. It's ok for dogs not to get what they want all the time! Louie is currently fostered with three other small male dogs and appears to get along with any dogs he has been introduced to; however we also feel he would be fine as an only dog.
We are super excited to see what the future holds for this boy!

If you have interest in meeting Louie or any of our sweeties, please fill out the adoption application.
Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved, a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
