Roux - in Maine

Posted July 2026

This stunner is Roux, and she is a gorgeous catahoula leopard dog with striking fur and beautiful eyes. This pretty baby would love to join your family! Roux is a loving and sweet pup who is 4 months old and 25 lbs. She has some growing to do!

She has been in her Maine foster home for a short time and is loving life, getting lots of exercise and runs around in a fenced yard with her furry foster sister. She has the first half of the game of "fetch" figured out but hasn't figured out how to bring it back yet ; 0 )

Roux loves chew toys & sticks, and enjoys other dogs. She has no interest in the cats in her foster home, but does try to herd the other dog.

Roux was shy when she first arrived but as she is settling in she is showing more comfort and independence. She still can be hesitant with new people but comes around easily with a treat especially.  Roux is food motivated, excellent in her crate through the night and when her foster mom is away from the house. She is learning to sit and wait for her food and is learning to gently take treats, knowing now that she will never have to be worried about food.

When Roux gets nervous she will hide - she thinks she is a beautiful flower and tries to hide in her foster mom's flower beds!  She hasn't learned to give a cue when ready to go out but she will get there now that she is settling in.

Roux thinks she might want to be an escape artist and will seize the opportunity with an open gate or cat door so a long lead or a leash will be needed for her at all times.

She is eager to learn new things and will be ready for a training class when she finds her forever family. She likes doggy puzzles and uses her smart brain whenever possible. A sedentary home will not be the right one for Roux  - we could see her making her own games if she didn't have plenty of exercise and stimulation.  She hadn't had a lot of leash experience before arriving so that's a work in progress for the moment!

If you are interested in Roux or any of our cuties, please fill out the adoption application

Please note: we do not have a physical facility where the dogs are housed; they are cared for in our wonderful foster network throughout New England. It is our expectation that, once approved,  a potential family will meet the dog(s) in the foster setting where they are feeling safe and loved.
